Learn to Knit Socks--Make a Sample Sock
Length: 4 hours total (this is a two-part class, and each part is two hours long)
Type: Technique
Instructor: Terry Neal
Fee: $40
Description: The options for making socks are endless--make fine dress socks or warm slipper socks, use different colors for the heels and toes, add an interesting stitch pattern or technique, use a self-striping or patterning yarn, or experiment with different cuffs, heels, and toes. The choices are all there to make your socks as ewe+nique as you are!
Sometimes it helps to really know the basics, though, and that’s what this workshop will give you. In this class, Terry will
share her sock-making knowledge with you while you make a small “practice” sample sock from the cuff down.
This workshop gives you the opportunity to work through the parts of a sock while also giving you the instant gratification of making your first sock in miniature. You may choose to work your sock on two circular needles or four double point needles, and you will be provided with a pattern to guide you accordingly.
Participants need to bring the following supplies to class or purchase them at TYF:
Blunt darning Needle
Approx. 60 yds. of DK (#3) or Worsted (#4) weight yarn (this makes 1 sample sock)
Needles: 2 circular needles (20”-24” in length) in Size 4 for DK or Size 6 for Worsted weight yarn (if using Worsted weight yarn and Denise interchangeable needles, bring Size 5 and Size 6 needles)—OR—one set of DPNs in Size 4 for DK or Size 6 for Worsted weight yarn
